The Dhanalakshmi Group of companies has been promoted by Mr K.Jagannathan. While continuing with his family traditional activity of agriculture, he commenced bus services in 1959 linking the towns & villages in his area and then diversified into construction and manufacturing operations in 1982. Dhanalakshmi Chemical Industries Limited, the oldest manufacturing company in the group, has its chemical manufacturing unit located in Ranipet, 120 km from Chennai to the west. It manufactures Solvent Ether, which is widely used in the manufacture of drugs and extraction of active ingredients from herbs & other plants. It is proposed to diversify into the manufacture of drug intermediates in this plant, since it is a rapidly growing area with the multi-nationals outsourcing their requirements to Indian manufacturing companies.
Dhanalakshmi Drugs Limited manufactures phenothiazine based anti-emetic and anti-psychotic drugs like Prochlorperazine Maleate & Mesylate, Trifluoperazine Hydrochloride and Chlorpromazine Hydrochloride and their intermediates.
Srinivasa College of Engineering & Technology was established in 2000 in Thalambur Village, 30 km to the south of Chennai in the IT zone, as per the norms of the All India Council for Technical Education, for providing undergraduate engineering education in the areas of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology. Now, it is proposed to establish a school with the most modern infrastructure to provide education to international standards.
Sri Angalaparameswari Impex is the international trading company of the Dhanalakshmi Group. Its current activities include export of iron ore fines and import of scrap. It is expanding its operations into the export of sugar, cement & other commodities. It is proposed to establish a sponge iron plant based on the iron ore mined from mines leased from the Orissa Government. This operation will also provide sufficient iron ore fines for the companys export operations.
Dhanalakshmi Realty and Promoters Private Limited is the real estate arm of the group. This company has been formed to develop the lands belonging to the promoters of the Dhanalakshmi Group located along the IT Highway linking Chennai and Mahabalipurm in the south into residential layouts and market the same to its potential high net-worth customers working in the IT companies in this area.
The current group turnover is about Rupees 250 Million (USD 5.7 Million). The turnover is expected to double during the next year based on the current plans of the group. The current group profit is about 9% of its turnover. The group undertakes tax planning to maximise the return to its promoters.
