My grandfather, in the far 1920, started the corkwork in a small village in thereggio emilia mountains. The raw material came for the mediterranean forests and landed in genova by ship. The cork was carried, during the summer season, p in the mountains on a wagon pulled by donkeys. Cork was then selected, boiled, processed and then carried down in the po valley where it was sold at the market. Our parents continued the precious work of grandpa; process and machinery improved, special semiautomatic machines were custom designed and built to produce 'corks' used to preserve the finest wines in the world. We are the third generation: We have invented new machinery, new techniques that make it possible to realize new ideas. Cork has been deeply studied, down to its molecular structure and has been used to cover the walls and floors of ourhomes, as thermal and acoustic insulator as well as on the space shuttle. It took more than 80 years to improve our experience and utilize at its best a highly technological material, used in shoes, fashion products, leather industry, and photoalbum industry. The cork oakskin is an important milestone but is also a start point for today's human being. It's a natural product, obtained from themost noble part of a rare centennial cork oak. The material extraction does not damage the tree that restarts its vital cycle with renewed strength. The output of a tree is modest and it's required a 20 years span time before a new extraction is possible; a rare prestige and the respect of using nature without harming it. The discontinuous aspect is typical of this product and guarantees its genuine origin.
