Takeuchi Sake Brewery is located in a village called Koga, a village well known as the hometown of the ninjas. It is near to city of Kyoto. Back approximately 1200 years ago when Kyoto was the capital of Japan, the village of Koga produced the highest quality rice called "Ohmi rice" to serve the royal family. Taking advantage of this Ohmi rice, Takeuchi Sake Brewery grew and has been making world's finest sakes for over 150 years.
We are proud to introduce one of Takeuchi Sake Brewery's masterpiece, KANOIZUMI'S sake "TAKEUCHI SHUZO". Historically in Japan during Edo-era, the capital was moved to Edo (current Tokyo) and daimyos-feudal lords- rose to reign the land. The Shogun at the time, Tokugawa the 3rd required periodic visits to Edo from all the daimyos, samurais, and ninjas throughout the country. In their travel for Edo, Kouga served as a crucial stop point for them because of geographical reasons. So naturally, KANOIZUMI'S sake Takeuchi Sake Brewery's fame spread among daimyos and samurais who had tasted it, but knowing the brewery's limited supply capability, they decided to keep it as their best kept secret-reason why it was proclaimed "sake that shall not be spoken of". Thus despite its tremendous popularity since the Edo-era, this sake had not seen a spread in availability, particularly outside of Japan...until now.
The brewing of this prestigious sake, with such royal pedigree and historic tradition, calls for all the prerequisites required to earn the highest sake rating.
