Floated on the London and New York Stock Exchanges in November 2001, mmO2 Plc is a former subsidiary of British Telecommunications.

Formerly named BT Wireless Limited, mmO2 holds stakes in mobile phone operators that serve some 16 million customers. Its BT Cellnet unit, which has about 11 million customers, is a leading mobile phone operator in the UK; whilst its VIAG Interkom unit has 3.4 million subscribers in Germany. MmO2 also operate Telfort in the Netherlands and Ireland's Digifone.

During May 2002 the Group launched its 02 consumer brand across all of its territories. This brings together the company five businesses in the UK, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands under a single, unified brand.

The Group operates BT Genie, a Mobile Internet service with over two and a half million registered users from the Internet and across four mobile networks.

Recently, the Company announced Europe's first fully operational third generation(3G) network on the Isle of Man. A wholly-owned subsidiary of mmO2, Manx Telecom, is developing a range of mobile data applications using 3G handsets and other compatible devices. The aim of the service is to provide mmO2 and its mobile businesses with a test platform before the introduction of 3G networks across the rest of Western Europe.

Its BT Cellnet business also recently agreed commercial GSM roaming terms with Hutchison, meaning that customers of Hutchison 3G will have access to BT Cellnet's coverage for GSM calls and texting.

The Group's European operating businesses recently launched the BlackBerry wireless email solution, a secure, end-to-end, integrated wireless email system for mobile professionals providing constant access to corporate email accounts.
