Virgin Coconut Oil is unique saturated oil derived from fresh coconuts. According to studies, virgin coconut oil is 50% lauric acid, which is a medium-chain fatty acid that turns into monolaurin when ingested into the human body. Monolaurin is an anti-viral and anti-bacterial agent that destroys lipid-coated viruses such as the HIV, the herpes virus, cytomegalovirus, and the influenza virus. It comes as no surprise therefore why hospitals are buying virgin coconut oil in large volumes, not only for use on patients but for research as well.
Studies have also shown that virgin coconut oil does not contain trans-fatty acids that promote insulin resistance, which leads to diabetes, cancer and other diseases.
