Husband and wife team, Denzil and Fiona Spolander, embarked on their entrepreneurial journey in 1998. Leaving the security of the corporate world, Denzil launched his international leather trading company, African Gameskin (PTY) Ltd, and Fiona began on a career in design, creating products from locally sourced skins and hides. Today they employ over 50 staff members who have helped turn their dreams into reality.The products they supply include a wide variety of superbly tanned leathers sourced from local and overseas tanneries with a particular focus on indigenous African animal skins such as zebra and springbok.The finished products represent the highest quality, well manufactured, environmentally friendly, South African crafts conforming to fair trade practices.The duo have built a reputation for being extremely conservation minded and all hides and skins are sourced from reputable tanners to ensure the development of the various species.The selection of bespoke manufactured products include furniture items such as ottomans and floor cushions, home decor such a scatter cushions and bed throws and high end fashion accessories.Fionas success story is her sophisticated springbok handbag collection which has become sought after on the export market and are sold in local boutiques that cater to the tourism end of the market. The Collection is marketed under the brand name, The FSP Collection and champions the design and use of natural products from Africa.The products are all hand crafted in Cape Town with great pride and care by a group of machinists, cutters and leather artisans and together they make up the extended family of the business. Particular attention is paid to the selection of each skin used in the manufacturing process and each product is carefully crafted and quality is monitored at every level. Through supporting local manufacture, Fiona and Denzil are helping to build a stronger more sustainable future for our world and our young nation.
