In 1995, The Central Research Laboratories was restructured as the CKD Research Institute to strengthen and expand its research activities for the 21st century.
The divisions of Pharmaceutical Technology and New Drug Development of the Research Institute are located at Chonan. Also, The divisions of Fermentation and Biotechnology of the Research Institute was established at Ansan.
CKD Pharm has concentrated on the production of therapeutic pharmaceuticals, primarily focusing on the application of its advanced technologies in fermentation and organic synthesis. Noteworthy products include Rifampicin (antituberculosis) , DMCT (raw material for Minocycline) , Cephalosporins, 7-ACA and other intermediates of Cephalosporins, Cyclosporin A (immunosuppressant) and Lovastatin (antihyperlipidaemic agent) .
