NEXGEN Biotechnologies, Inc. is the specialized 2nd Generation Plant Biotechnology company begun firstly in Korea.

NEXGEN Biotechnologies, Inc., established in November 1999, is the venture biotechnology company based on the plat form technology of 2nd generation plant biotechnology. Since its inception, the company has been focused on advancing the next generation of biotechnology.

NEXGEN is developing and producing high value added products for medicine, agriculture and industry by applying the 2nd generation plant biotechnology that has recently become an issue in leading industrialized countries to the general industry.

The 1st generation of plant biotechnology saw plants simply as a food resource, and worked to develop new crops that have resistance to herbicides, adverse environmental conditions as well as improved tolerance to insect and microbial pests. The majorities of these new crops were and still are being developed by large multi-national agricultural chemical companies. However the development of these new transgenic crops is increasingly becoming a concern to the consumers who fear the growing of GM plants.

NEXGEN is instead committed to the next generation of biotechnology which will provide benefits directly to the consumer by using plants as bio-factories to produce improved products for medicine, the veterinary and agricultural industry as well as for cosmetics and general industry. NEXGEN conducts research and development in various fields: molecular farming for the production of useful proteins using plants as bio-factories, developing edible vaccines for oral vaccinations against particular diseases, phytoremediation research for cleaning pollutants from the air, soil or water as well as being involved with floriculture for producing virus-free plants. Through its concentrated research efforts Nexgen is developing high value-added medicines, cosmetics and industrial enzymes.
