We've been in the medical and health business since 1947. Grandfather began the company, manufacturing medical equipment, with a focus on surgical supplies and orthopedic software. He opened in the heart of Los Angeles, on Wilshire Blvd. Not only did he design and patent many of the pieces of medical equipment, he also invented and built much of the production machinery. His designs were first "borrowed" by local fledgeling manufacturers, and in later years copied by Japanese, then Taiwainese, and finally Mexican companies (although the copy cats have never achieved the original high standards of quality). One item was far ahead of its time, an elastic back support which is essentially the prototype for todays sports and industrial lumbar braces. Originally it was physician prescribed only, for use after surgery or an injury. The idea to wear it for sports or as a protection while moving heavy items became popular among several famous movie actors such as Edward G. Robinson and Humphrey Bogart. The Wilshire Blvd location was close to the Studios and it was common to see several celebrities a day walking past the front windows. Then in the early 1950s, about the time McCarthey was putting a chill on Hollywood, the company relocated to Arcadia. We've since branched out into the health and wellness field, and the orthopedic division was bought out by a large corporation in the early 90's. Our current focus is on photonic and sonic healing & fitness equipment, including phototherapy, LLLT, ultrasonic, etc.--with some exciting patents pending as well.
