Our tea producer, Hiroyuki Sugimoto, won the title of Japan's Best Green Tea Connoisseur at the National Blind Tasting Championship in 1986. This is the most dignified competition for tea experts in Japan to vie for the nation's highest title in tea. Only by looking, smelling and tasting green tea, contestants must identify the harvest season, the cultivar and the growing region of tea plants. Hiroyuki's keen sense of taste and smell marked the highest score.
In the same year of 1986, Hiroyuki's green tea received the Agricultural Minister Award for its outstanding quality. Hiroyuki's well-honed tasting and blending skill is highly admired by farmers and there is no end to the number of farmers who wish to supply green tea for him.

Product safety is our top priority at Sugimoto Tea Company. We produce green tea in full compliance with Japan's agricultural laws and ordinances. Tea Producer Sugimoto strictly monitors all of our 11 farmers to record their farming operations such as watering, fertilizing, and harvesting. In addition, Sugimoto's tea factory is certified as Mini-HACCP by the government of Shizuoka prefecture that assures his facilities are designed to produce safe products.

Shizuoka prefecture, know as "Green Tea Capital," is one of Japan's best sources of green tea, and nearly half of Japanese green tea is produced in Shizuoka. Shizuoka is to tea what the Napa Valley is to wine in the United States.
