Fonon technology was established in 1991 as an R& D company by a group of high-level scientists and engineers as a result of research and development in three major worldwide patented technologies in the hi-tech industry: fiber laser material processing technology, zero width laser cutting technology (zwlct) , solid state lapping (ssl) , and quartz laser welding technology (qlwt) .

In 2002 fonon technology acquired laser photonics-high tech laser equipment manufacturing company in Florida to commercialize the accumulated intellectual property in form of material processing equipment.
In 2006 fonon technology opened new laser manufacturing facility in Florida for OEM products.
