Origin of One Step Ahead was a trading company with its main activities of supporting domestic manufacturers to search and develop business with customers from different countries all over the world.

After a half of year for trading operation of package field, Ms Vanle, Director of One Step Ahead, has found her passion in the study of plastic package friendly to environment as well as the need of replacement of conventional plastic materials with disintegrated plastic materials to help reduce environmental pollution.

In the recent years, there have been many studies aimed at finding materials with good properties at reasonable prices. Environmental concerns are much increasing caused to many directions of research transferring from integrated and non-recycled materials to disintegrated and recycled ones. The selection of materials satisfying structures and designs as requested requires unification of opposite properties. This can be achieved by optimizing features in the selection and design of materials.

During the period, some plastic package companies in Vietnam are on the trend of using self-destroying adjuncts imported to produce self-destroying package. However, according to the research, Ms Vanle found that such adjuncts can be used only with a very small amount as its main affects of breaking the structure and splitting up the plastic products into small pieces other than full disintegration. For that reason, higher price of such faked disintegrated packages compared to other normal ones is a disadvantage also (against with recycled or primitive types). In addition, it also contains another big weakness of disintegrated packages as the products stored awaiting to produce in the market could be disintegrated due to the adjuncts are agents of oxidation. Therefore as soon as the products reach to customers, they have been degraded and lost properties of finished products. It does not mention that in case the adjuncts are original from heavy metal elements, it may cause side affect of water and soil pollution, and poisoning to customers if these packages are used for food containers.

As a result, Ms Vanle decided to learn how to use alternative materials to plastic mixture for partially substituting normal materials. The materials originate from plants which can be easily disintegrated. The advantage of composite materials of new package is to contain a high bio-disintegration filler content (>30%). First of all, the products shall retain a normal rate of prices (compared with packages made from 100% PE resin) and gradually reduce the dependence of packaging industry on types of resin, naturally resources developed from crude oil gradually exhausted. Secondly, the alternative materials will likely cause a prompt biological disintegration to resin particles while existing with the types of additive plant, and especially buried in natural soil.

Thanks to association with Mr. Ha Thuc Chi Nhan, lecturer of Material Science Faculty, University of Natural Sciences, in conjunction with his research group, Ms. Vanle was successful for using more than 60% of ingredients originated from plants into plastic mixture to create the material friendly to environment.

On February 2010, The Bio-based plastic factory of One Step Ahead Company was established, and on June 2010, the first packages were exported Japan. One Step Ahead Company was successful in bringing products friendly with environment from experimentation to reality.

At present, the Company has continuously researched and developed lines of plastic products friendly with environment. It is aimed at the goals of mutually solving pollution issues from the waste of plastic packages towards the environment.
