NORTHEAST HAAT the arts craft and cultural centre of the Northeast is located in Meerut Meerut is a city and a municipal corporation in Meerut district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh It is an ancient city located 64 kilometers north-east of New Delhi Meerut also has one of the major army garrisons cantonments in this part of the country Northeast Haat was established in 2008 under the aegis of Northeast Sahkari Awas Samiti Limited
North-east Sahkari Awas Samiti Limited is a Cooperative Group Housing Society constituted under Section-6 of the Uttar Pradesh Societies Registration Act of 1965 and Registered with the Uttar Pradesh Awas Vikas Parishad Government of Uttar Pradesh 'vide Registration No 3923
North-east Cooperative Group Housing Society was initiated and formed in 2006 by a group of young persons from the North-east working in the Parliament of India with a dream to setting up a housing colony exclusively for people from Northeast India in Delhi NCR They initially planned to get the Society Registered in Delhi But unfortunately they learnt in the process that registration of Housing Societies itself was banned in Delhi and the last Housing Society to be registered was made way back in 1993 That being so after looking at the various options available they finally got it registered in Ghaziabad Since then there was no looking back
Under the dynamic leadership of the Society 150 members from the Northeast have managed to book their flats at Supertech Livingston Crossings Republik 26 Kilometers from Parliament House on NH-24 located just in between Ghaziabad and NOIDA. Our members ranges from Politicians Ministers MLAs etc Bureaucrats (IAS IPS etc to LDCs and Grade IV employees of the Government Dwelling units being over feeling mission accomplished the Society looked ahead and Supertech Limited was kind enough to give space for opening of Northeast Haat at their Shopprix Mall in Meerut
Northeast Haat is spread over fifty shops on the second floor of the sprawling Shopprix Mall It is a tribute to Manipurs natural beauty richly diverse cultural heritage and vibrant cultural ethos It is a place where artisans from the Northeast in general and Manipur in particular can showcase their individual talent and skills in a variety of arts craft and culture
Northeast Haat is a tribute to the cultural Legacy of Northeast India in general, and that of Manipur in Particular The primary aim of this establishment is to foster restore and help flourish the culture of Manipurs glorious past It provides a common platform for artisans of Manipur both from the hills and the plains to showcase their talents Northeast Haat is intended to be a melting pot of traditions and cultures.Northeast Haat helps in promoting art and culture, acts as a facilitators in bringing the artisans to meet directly with the buyers thus finding the market and ultimately preserving the art
It is our endeavor that we would like to promote handloom and handicraft as well as cane and bamboo products from Manipur beyond Meerut To realize that dream we have opened a Branch at Manipur Emporium in New Delhi
It is also our endeavor that the stalls at the Manipur Emporium would be one small step but a big step towards fulfillment of our larger dream-to showcase Manipurs art and culture to the entire world It is our belief and hope that once our dream of opening a stall in the Emporium is realized the products made available there would be in high demand across the globe
