"INSOLITO" (UNUSUAL, because it is Unusual to find such a good and tasty extravirgin oil) is the brand used by the PICCIARIELLO olive oil mill to commercialize his extra virgin olive oil. This extra virgin olive oil has peculiar acidity between 0.2 and 0.4 degrees, remarkable values for a natural product free of preservatives and dyes. The oil company, owned from more than a half century by the Picciariello family, is still headed by the same conduction. The oil mill is located on the SP89 km 2+200 to Bitonto, in the Puglia region (Italy), considered the natural cradle of olive culture, where olive orchards are cultivated with the utmost respect for the environment.The principles of a healthy agriculture, based on natural system are inspected and certified by the officials bureaus that certify the validity and the goodness of the product.The olive supply, mainly made by "Ogliarola Bitontina" cultivars, comes from lands owned directly by the PICCIARIELLO olive oil mill and from selected land owners present in the area wich is characterized by a strong agricultural vocation.The olive are harvested by hand picking/mechanical cropping and are grinded by granite wheels within 24 hours from harvesting. The oil is then mechanically cold extracted in order to protect the peculiar nutritional and organoleptic charateristics.The domestic market handles most of the final product but the company is paying a great attention to the eastern and western markets in which is greatly increasing the appreciation for italian food.
