A major advantage is the capability of SVC Valves to handle gases, fluids, solids and mixtures thereof. Knife gate valves cannot handle high percentage of solids without jamming the material into the bottom of the valves preventing proper closing. The same holds for butterfly valves, where solids are pressed between the discs and the seats. The ball valves have the disadvantage that in a partially open position the seats are exposed; the flow of material hits the seats and cause damage to the seats. In the Stargate O-Port Valves the sealing areas of the seats are away from the flow and thus are protected from premature wear.
